Writing – Labeling pictures with the beginning sound of the word

Literacy: Matching uppercase and lowercase letters, producing letter sounds; identifying     

the beginning sound in a word   

Science:  How do plants grow? What are the parts of a flower?

Math:  Number 15, Continuing practice with identifying teen numbers

I will be gone this week on vacation Wednesday-Friday.  Mrs. Daimler will be here again – she has been in our class many times and your kiddos know her well.  If you have any questions or needs, please call the office at 254-5600 instead of emailing or calling my classroom phone since I will not be available to relay the messages!

Do you know any other children that will be registering for Kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year?  The KDG informational parent meeting will be at Stoney Creek on April 27 at 6:30pm (ELL/Spanish presentation will be at 6pm) Our Readiness Kindergarten families are not required to attend this event.  Your child will be automatically enrolled in a Kindergarten classroom for next school year!

What we will learn next:

v Letter J – Jerry Jellyfish

v Handwriting Letter – K (Big line down, jump up and over, little line in, little line out)

v Writing – We are working on labeling our pictures with letters/sounds that we hear

v Math:  Building our own 10 Frames (ask your kiddo what a 10 frame is!)

v Literacy: We are working on rhyming words! Help us practice at home!

Reading Minutes for Reading Month can be turned in anytime, and I will send new sheets home as they are filled up!  Your kiddo can earn:

N  1 sheet - Tattoo (temporary!)

N  2 sheets - Pirate Coin

N  3 sheets - Eye Patch

N  4 sheets - Dog Tag

N  5 sheets - Book

Letters

This week we will focus on the letter C c (Catina Cat).   

Handwriting

We will learn the letter S this week – probably the hardest letter to write, help us practice at home!

Math

We’re going to be moving on to the number 7 this week!

Science

We are going to continue talking about animals that hibernate and where they might live.  Then we’ll move on to leaning all about bears!

School Closings and Delays

When the weather is bad, please check the TV for school closings.  Our school district is Comstock Park Public Schools in Kent County.  There is another school named just “Comstock” in Kalamazoo county.  Be sure you’re looking for the “Park” at the end so it’s the right school!

Box Top Competition is going on until the end of January - please send them in to school if you’re saving them!
