Open House

Remember, our class does not have school this Monday.  There is an Open House at Stoney Creek on Monday evening for you and your child to come check out the new classroom!  5-7pm. 

Also - it's officially winter snow season now.  Please send your kiddo to school prepared to play outside every day - they need hats, gloves, snow pants, etc.  Label as many of these things as you can with your child's name, because it's easy to get them mixed up. 

Also - if you have any leftovers/extras - our class bucket could use some spare gloves/hats/snow pants/etc for the kiddos who forget or do not have these items.  Please send anything you're willing/able to donate to school labeled "for the classroom" so I know!!

Upcoming Events and School Review

Our Open House at Stoney Creek has been rescheduled for Monday, January 7th - from 5-7 pm.  Unfortunately - our new classroom doesn't have carpet or ceiling lights yet - hopefully these things will get done soon and I will be able to work on setting up the room over Holiday Break.  

Remember, no school for our class on Monday the 7th, but there will be an open house to come tour the building that evening from 5-7pm.  We will begin our school days at Stoney Creek starting Tuesday, Jan. 8th.

School Review – these are the things we’ve done so far this year!  

Letters

So far, we have spent a week learning these letters:  B, M, R, S, O , T, G, A, and N.

 

Handwriting

We have learned these letters in handwriting so far:  L, F, E, H, I, T, U, C, G, O and Q.

Math

We all have mastered ABAB patterning.  We are working on more complex patterns, along with counting to 20 (or higher!) and number recognition.

Please send in your food donations by next week if you're able to, so I know what I need to get for our party. 

Our Holiday Singing is not a big concert, it's just our class singing a few songs that we've been practicing.  If you'd like to come to the party for just that part, or even have a grandparent that'd like to attend - that's great!  However, depending on how many try to stay for the "party" part - we may have to ask extra guests to leave if we don't have enough room in here (especially if all my big boxes haven't been moved yet!!)

Things we did this week: 

Letters

This week was all about the letter G - gorillas, glitter, and gingerbread! 
 

Handwriting

The Letter O - (big curve, big curve) 

Math

We are still practicing starting at the number 10 and continuing to count on to 20.  Good news - we have all mastered ABAB patterning!! 

Science

We did a lot of work with magnets - try to do some magnetic experiments at home! 

Story Time

We have learned the word Author - and are learning a lot about how we are all authors during our Writer's Workshop time! 

REMINDERS 

Our communication folders come home on Mondays only.  Please return them by Friday. 

It's getting cold outside!  Students will continue to go outside for recess through the winter.  Please remember hats and gloves for them - and remind your student to leave these things on and take care of them when they come inside.  We already have a big pile of gloves that no one seems to think is their own!  

We even go outside in the snow - so be prepared!  The only time we stay inside is if it's raining or if the wind chill is below zero.
