There has been some confusion of the exact purpose of the planners that we use - so let's set some ground rules!
Students can expect about 15-30 minutes of homework each Monday-Thursday. Third grade is a wonderful year to establish a homework routine at home and practice the responsibility of taking something home, completing it at home, and returning it to school the next day. Homework will not be sent home over the weekend. Although it’s not required, reading over the weekend is always encouraged.
I will not usually have students bring home unfinished classwork for homework -- this work is meant to be done in the classroom, with the resources we have here.
Homework will typically include the following:
20 minutes of reading
Math Practice
Spelling Practice
Vocabulary Practice
Cursive Practice
Students will record all homework in their planners, along with special events and notes. Again, writing the homework in the planner will allow students to practice responsibility. Students will bring the planner home each night for you, the parent, to initial. Since most of the assigned homework is reading and studying, it’s very important that you sign the planner to hold your child accountable for the reading and studying. If family circumstances arise and homework cannot be completed, write a note in the planner. The planner is an easy way to communicate information to me!
Students will be rewarded for getting 5 stamps in a row on Fridays (meaning they need last Friday's stamp, plus Mon-Thurs. of this week). They will earn a Ticket, and after collecting a few they may use them to purchase Classroom Coupons.
